Samhita
Credits:
In Samhita, the traditions of Carnatic Music and Bharatanatyam come together in an extempore conversation, yet within the boundaries of their respective grammars. Samhita is based on the tradition of manodharma or improvisation that brings alive a spontaneous and in the moment unfolding of creative expression, of both the musician and the dancer. The performance draws from the various improvisational elements of Carnatic Music – including aalapana, taanam, neraval, kalpana swaram. It also comprises of original pieces that the two artists have composed together, where the dance and music seamlessly come together but aren’t the only elements in the dialogue. The artists’ holistic approach and passion towards all the aspects that make up the music and dance including the philosophy, metaphors, poetry and aesthetic sensibilities together inform and guide each others response. Samhita is a celebration of an artistic connect between the music & dance and their spontaneous in-performance dialogue!

Mesmerizing conversation!
"Ranjani Ramakrishnan and Divya Devaguptapu, along with their musical accompanists, joined together to create a truly unforgettable performance. Though I had anticipated a wonderful event that evening, the way that these two women wove music and dance together truly took my breath away. The structure of the performance may have been based on a Carnatic kacheri; however, to me, the interaction between the vocalist and dancer resembled a mesmerizing conversation, one that I could happily listen to for hours on end"

Pinnacle of Music & Dance
Each and every piece in the performance was so carefully and artistically crafted to truly represent the pinnacle of the culmination of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam, eliciting an awestruck effect on the audience. I was honestly inspired by the abhinayam, the grace, and the connection with music that the dancer portrayed. I am glad I was able to appreciate and enjoy the performance, as well as apply it to my own learning of sangeetham and dance.
